The European branch network will continue to be at the heart of Triodos Bank’s efforts to grow sustainable banking and its impact, building a strong network of around 500,000 customers. It will further build on efforts to actively promote and extend the idea of the conscious use of money to benefit people and the environment through the banking system.
Triodos Bank’s branches are at different stages in their efforts to offer a credible set of services to all their customers, and all are committed to building closer, more meaningful relationships with their clients.
In 2014 all Triodos Bank’s branches expect to develop further and grow organically. The focus will be on qualitative, rather than quantitative growth.
In Spain particular efforts will be made to attend to daily banking needs as the customers’ bank of preference, and intensify the relationship banking model to be the first bank for the sectors that Triodos Bank is active in. In addition, Triodos Fundacion (Triodos Foundation, the bank’s grant-giving arm) will play an important role bolstering the development of the Triodos Bank brand and acting as an opinion leader in the use and function of gift money.
Diversification of the loan portfolio will be a priority in Belgium, as it will be in the other branches. At the same time, subject to a risk assessment, the Belgian branch will prepare the launch of a current account in 2015.
In the UK the development of a diverse loan portfolio remains a priority. Longer term the branch plans to develop a personal mortgage offering over the next two years and now expects to offer a personal current account in 2016.
In Germany, a campaign to promote depository receipts and raise new capital will be launched in the second half of 2014. An increased focus on loans, supported by process improvements and a strengthened team are expected to result in an increase in borrowing after limited development in 2013. The branch expects to break even in 2015. Communications with customers at the start of their relationship with Triodos Bank will be improved by the Dutch branch in 2014. The branch will contribute to household energy savings via sustainable private loans and it will further develop a distinct proposition for children.
All these efforts will lead to increases in the number of personal customers, investors, and borrowers. At the same time the European network will rebalance its efforts to grow, implement new regulations and improve risk management. Triodos Bank has become a medium-sized bank working in an increasingly regulated European context. It will strengthen its governance to meet the challenge of complying with this evolving environment.
